5th Ave New Build Reveal – Kitchen/Hallway

Hear ye, hear ye, the Casa de Padres new build reveal is here! The culmination of months worth of research, hard work, and a full-fledged collaboration on all fronts have resulted in this little beauty. Believe it or not, the house only has a footprint of 1700 square feet (not including the garage) but with the high ceilings and open/not totally open concept, it feels super spacious. Bigger isn’t always better.

My mom and stepdad poured their hearts and souls into making this dream come true and it shows in every detail. They were very hands-on from the beginning and were on board with most of my design ideas which was pretty cool. From the heirloom furniture they brought from their previous house to the salvaged pieces that are sprinkled throughout, this house has serious personality!

Behold the little gem, the epitome of smart style, smart budget…..

Awesome lighting alert:

Some people see open shelving as “you’ll see clutter”, where I see it as “look how many less dishes there are to wash”.

How great is this restaurant table? Mom and Bernard came up with the idea because their previous neighbor had one. I was skeptical and kept pushing for a built-in island that offered more storage but after a few discussions, I realized it wasn’t going to happen so I stopped pestering. I’m glad I did, I like it.

The barn doors were salvaged from the house I grew up in. Home Depot has the best sliding door hardware so we ordered up a couple sets and done, doors were hung. And to brag about the lighting again: I thought that the school house style fixtures were too cute and when anything is too cute, you buy it.

Another blast from the past: the wire baskets were salvaged by mom forever ago when the public pool in our hometown got a facelift. The bathrooms had these old lockers with storage baskets for everyone’s wet towels, and whatever else it is that kids bring to the pool, and when they remodeled they didn’t need the baskets anymore so mom swooped in and grabbed a few. We pretty much designed this area around the baskets.

I originally designed this powder room with the idea that we were going to wallpaper above the wainscoting. It will still happen, it’s just taking a little longer than expected to convince my stepdad that wallpaper won’t burn his corneas.

That’s all for now. The master bedroom, great room, and guest bath reveal is coming soon!
