When I was growing up, roller rinks still existed. Yes, that’s right. And part of the
always torturous formative years of Middle School were roller skating field trips that the school would take us on a couple times a year. I loved those trips because although my skating skills were questionable, I always had fun spending time with my friends and I loved the way my purple Sara Jeans sparkled in the strobe light.
And “Singles Skate” was where it was at! Couples Skate was for couples, and Ladies Choice was the only time a boy would skate with me because the rule was he had to; therefore, for the perpetually awkward 97% rest of us who preferred to skate with friends, Singles Skate was really cool.
So, today I’m honoring all those great memories by dedicating this post to The Single Open Shelf – kitchen edition. It’s no secret I love open shelving and have used the concept in a few of my recent kitchen projects. But lately I’ve found myself drawn to the simplistic, yet stunning look of one single open shelf.
One shelf allows you to accessorize with whatever you want without being restricted to height issues from another shelf above it. I also really like the way a little goes a long way. If there is a small space on a wall that would look cluttered with two open shelves, consider installing just one and then going crazy with beautiful vases or pretty pottery.
Here’s a collection of beautiful kitchens that all have a single open shelf incorporated into the design. Me gusta!
And here’s a sneak peek into my latest project. OMG, one shelf!
