A major perk of my job is having access to all of the latest and greatest trends coming out on the market each year. It’s always exciting and I’m definitely that girl – the one running around looking a little crazed, touching everything, and then saying too many times in one hour “WOW, THAT IS SO COOL!”
And yet, while every Market presents new forecasted trends for the year – some hot, some not, a lot of what I see each year is really just a new twist on a classic design. I’m all about innovation and getting excited about a design element that I haven’t seen before, but I also don’t think that reinventing the wheel each time is necessary.
So, what does it mean to honor classic design while implementing fun, new elements? Let’s use the kitchen as an example. Generally, cabinetry is monotone – the reason why the all-white palette has always been a go-to look – but I’ve been seeing a lot of combinations (color and material) lately, that are really speaking to me. Check out these photos and see how the incorporation of a different element transforms what could be a classic kitchen to a cool looking, yet still classic, yet full of modern character, kitchen.

Are you considering adding a saturated color to your kitchen palette? Heres a few colors that work really well, especially if you have existing wood tones going on already – barring, of course, 80’s oak.
Stick around for the big reveal of my latest new build project. Does it include a combination-palette kitchen? Of course!
Cheers,
Heather
